Women's Basketball Slips to Farmingdale State, 72-63

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Farmingdale State College handed the Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team its second loss of the season as the Falcons slipped to the Rams, 72-63, Thursday evening in non-conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Albertus grabbed a 6-2 edge in the first two minutes of action before a 4-3 run by the Rams put the hosts up three, 9-6. After the teams traded points, Albertus outscored the Rams, 6-3, over the final 3:29 of the first frame to hold on to a 17-14 cushion.

The Falcons maintained a nine-point lead, 25-16, three minutes into the second stanza. The Rams' Dana McCall sparked a 9-5 run that made it a two possession game, 30-25, with 4:01 left on the clock. Albertus maintained its lead and led by 10, 38-28, at the half.

Junior Andreah Orr (Danbury, Conn.) posted a strong first half for the Falcons collecting 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Out of the locker room, Albertus lengthened its advantage to 12, 42-28, but eight straight points from the Rams cut the lead to within four, 42-38. Farmingdale State continued to fight as the hosts regained the lead at the 2:06 mark on a three from Jami Cardenas. Her three-point jumper would be the final basket of the quarter as the Rams led by one, 48-47, heading into the final 10. 

Albertus and Farmingdale State battled through two ties until a short spurt put the hosts up five, 60-55, with 4:45 remaining in regulation. The Rams proved to be too much for the Falcons to handle earning the 72-63 home victory.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Orr was on the verge of a triple-double with 12 points, 15 rebounds and seven blocks.
  • This game saw three ties and nine lead changes.
  • With the win, the Rams bring the all-time series record to 5-3.
  • Orr led the Falcons defensive unit for the second straight game while Raposo led the offensive unit in scoring for the second time.
  • Orr tied her season-high in blocks with seven.
  • In her first appearance with the Falcons, freshman Bridget Rosikiewicz (Naugatuck, Conn.) tallied five points and five rebounds.
