Women's Basketball Wins Sixth Straight, Defeats Old Westbury, 66-55

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Both Shyla Osmond (New Haven, Conn.) and Andreah Orr (Danbury, Conn.) tallied double-doubles to lead the Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team to its sixth consecutive win, a 66-55 home triumph over SUNY Old Westbury on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons used smothering defense to build an early lead in tonight's contest. Albertus allowed just one point over the first four-plus minutes of action to take an 8-1 advantage. Osmond and Orr comprised all of the Falcons' offense to start, as the duo scored four points each over the first four minutes.

Albertus led by as much as 13 points, 24-11, in the first quarter, taking a 24-13 advantage into the second quarter. The Panthers began to find their footing near the end of the first half, cutting its deficit to eight, 36-28, at the break.

Osmond led the way for the Falcons after the first half with 10 points, six rebounds and four assists. Orr finished the first 20 minutes with four points and seven boards.

Albertus began the third quarter on a tear, using an 11-2 run to build its lead to 17, 47-30. A key to the Falcons' run was Orr, who tallied five consecutive points on an and-one bucket and a layup. Osmond and Orr combined to score 15 of the team's 17 points in the frame with 10 by Osmond and five by Orr. Albertus led by as much as 20 points, 53-33, in the quarter, before taking a 53-37 advantage into the fourth.

In the fourth, Old Westbury was unable to cut its deficit to single-digits, as they were dealt the 66-55 road loss. Katherine Raposo (Warwick, R.I.) led Albertus in the quarter with five points, while Orr posted four points and three rebounds.

For the game, Osmond and Orr paced a balanced offense for the Falcons, as both logged double-doubles. Osmond posted 20 points on 10-of-14 (71.4%) shooting from the floor to go along with 10 rebounds for her fourth consecutive double-double. Orr tallied 13 points and 15 rebounds for her fourth double-double of 2019. Rah-Rah Thompson (Bridgeport, Conn.) also came close to a double-double with eight points and eight boards.
