Rivera Nets Double-Double in Falcons' Home Win over Fisher

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team extended its winning streak to four straight on Tuesday night, defeating the Falcons of Fisher College in non-conference action by a final score of 74-36 inside "The Nest." 

Natasha Rivera (Ansonia, Conn.) recorded the game's only double-double behind an 11-point, 11-rebound performance. Caitlyn Scott (White Plains, N.Y.) led all players with 16 points, while Jakara Murray-Leach (Norwalk, Conn.) added 13 points. Robin Selitte (Bridgeport, Conn.) also had an excellent game for the Falcons, as the sophomore forward grabbed 10 boards and scored six points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Rivera kicked off regulation with a bang, scoring the Falcons' first five points behind a trey and a layup two minutes in. 

  • Despite Fisher tying the game at 5-all with 5:37 left on the clock, Albertus closed out the stanza with a 7-2 run to take a 12-7 lead at the end of one.
  • Albertus outshot Fisher in the second quarter, 24-11, behind seven points from Murray-Leach and five each from White and Scott, to take a commanding 36-18 lead into the halftime break. 

  • The teams traded baskets over the first five minutes of play in the third stanza, with Scott scoring four points and Murray-Leach draining two. 
  • A Scott three at the 4:47 mark in the third increased the Falcons' lead to 18, 45-27. 
  • Fisher cut the deficit to 45-29 off a layup from Nayleemar Montalvo, before Albertus went on a 9-0 run to close out the quarter with the 54-29 lead. 

  • Rivera opened the fourth quarter of play with a  jumper that sparked a 5-0 run by the blue-and-white and pushed the host's lead to 30, 59-29, with 7:33 left to play in regulation. 
  • The teams traded baskets until the 4:50 mark, when Albertus ran away with the game, putting together a 9-0 run to put the finishing touches on a 74-36 non-conference victory inside "The Nest."

  • This is the first-ever meeting between Albertus and Fisher.

  • In her second-season appearance, Adrianna Faienza (New Britain, Conn.) netted a season-high six points to go with six rebounds, two assists, and a steal. 
  • Jaelynn Mitchell (West Haven, Conn.) posted a season-best in rebounds with four and points with two.
  • Over 14 minutes of play, Sharaya Keele (Adams, Mass.) finished the game with four points, a block, an assist, and a steal.
  • Jasmine St. Clair (Stratford, Conn.) finished third on the team this evening in rebounds with seven.
