Women's Ice Hockey Leads Early, But Falls To Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Albertus Magnus College women's ice hockey team led after the first period but fell, 4-2 to Wilkes University on Friday evening.

Isabella Contreras (Surprise, Az.) had a goal and an assist for the Falcons. Kayla Clark scored a goal and Molly Martin (Buffalo, N.Y.) had two assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Falcons struck first on a power play on a power-play goal from Contreras at the 16:43 mark of the opening period, capitalizing on a rebound after a shot from Gabriella Dellacroce (Woodbridge, Conn.). The Falcons went into the first intermission with the one-goal lead as Christmas Johnson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) stopped all 13 shots she faced.
  • At the 3:30 mark in the second period, the Colonels tied the game on a goal from Rissa Brazeau. They'd take the lead at the 9:06 mark as Lily Zingaro made it a 2-1 Wilkes lead.
  • Just three minutes into the third, Brazeau added her second goal of the game making it a 3-1 game.
  • Clark made it a one score game with her fifth goal of the season on an assist from Martin and Contreras.
  • Wilkes added an empty net goal with 28 seconds left for the final tally.

  • It was the fourth game Martin has had at least two assists in a game. She now has 12 assists on the season and 20 points.
  • It was the first multi-point game for Contreras in her career. 
  • Clark now has five goals on the season. She has at least a point in eight of her last nine games.
  • It was the tenth game this season Johnson had at least 35 saves in a game.
