Women's Lacrosse Drops 26-17 Decision to Mitchell

The Albertus Magnus women's lacrosse team dropped a 26-17 decision to Mitchell College on Monday afternoon in New Haven.

The Falcons fall to 2-10 on the year with the loss, while Mitchell improves to 2-7 overall.

Halle Atieri (Guilford, Conn.) scored seven goals to lead the Falcons, while both Miranda Jassil (North Branford, Conn.) and Ashley Guerrera (Watertown, Conn.) added five goals apiece.

Ashley Murtha scored an impressive 13 goals for Mitchell as she tallied one assist as well. Amanda Rowan added four goals for the Mariners.

Mitchell took a 3-0 lead thanks to two goals from Murtha before Albertus cut the lead to 3-2. Murtha scored three more goals to extend the Mariners' lead to 6-3 before Mitchell outscored Albertus 3-1 to take a 9-4 lead. The Falcons battled back to cut into Mitchell's lead but the Mariners held a 13-8 lead into the halftime break. 

Mitchell outshot the Falcons 23-21 in the first half.

In the second half, Jassil got the Falcons to within four goals with a score of her own less than three minutes into the frame.  Mitchell answered with three-straight goals to take a 16-8 lead before play went back and forth with scores on each side of the field.

Mitchell continued its impressive offensive outing, taking a 10-goal lead with 14:46 left in regulation thanks to a Rowan goal that made the score 23-13.

Altieri scored four of her seven goals in the second half of play.

Erika Blechert (Durham, Conn.) made 15 saves in goal for the Falcons, while Anysia Lombardo made nine stops for Mitchell.
