Albertus Falls to Rivier 19-5 in GNAC Action

The Albertus Magnus women's lacrosse team fell to Rivier 19-5 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday morning in New Haven.  On a snow-filled morning, Rivier jumped out to a 15-3 lead in the first half after scoring six quick unanswered goals.

Albertus (1-5, 0-3 GNAC) got on the scoreboard eight minutes into play as Amanda Montano (North Haven, Conn.) scored an unassisted goal to make the score 6-1.  Six different Raiders scored the first six goals for Rivier.  For Rivier, the victory was its first of the season as the Raiders improved to 1-4 on the year and 1-1 in league action.

Rivier jumped out to a 13-2 lead before heading into the halftime break with a 15-3 advantage.

Ashley Guerrera and Montano combined for the three goals for Albertus as Montano tallied two in the first half of play.

Rivier scored the first two goals of the second half to take a 17-3 lead before Jenny Luna (Brentwood, N.Y.) scored her team-leading 11th goal of the season.  Guerrera scored her second goal of the day with 23 seconds left on the clock as Albertus fell 19-5.

Rivier was led by Amanda Wickens and Savannah Neuwirt with three goals apiece, while six other Raiders contributed with two goals each.

In net, the Raiders we led by Danielle Moran who tallied 15 saves, while allowing five goals.

Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) made nine saves in net for the Falcons.

Albertus is scheduled to host Elms on Monday afternoon in a 4:00 p.m. non-conference contest in New Haven.
