Case Stops 21 in Loss to Elms

The Albertus Magnus women's lacrosse team fell in a hard-fought battle to Elms College by a score of 9-3 on Monday afternoon in New Haven.  Despite the loss, Albertus goalie Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) tallied a career-high 21 saves in the contest.

Elms took a 2-0 lead early in today's contest before Albertus answered with back-to-back unassisted goals by Nikki Kern (Wallingford, Conn.) and Kelly Kennedy (North Branford, Conn.).

 At the break, with the score tied at two, Elms had outshot the Falcons 14-9.

Case tallied 12 of her 21 saves in the second half of play as she faced 30 shots in the contest.

After the break, Elms scored four unanswered goals, including two from Kayla Narey, to take a 6-2 lead.  Jenny Luna (Brentwood, N.Y.) scored for the Falcons to cut the lead to three but Elms scored the final three goals on the contest.  Jill Pirog scored two of the Blazers' final three tallies.

Elms' Meeghan O'Connor tallied 11 saves in net.

Pirog scored three goals on the afternoon, while Narey added three as well.

Albertus will return to action at home on Wednesday when the Falcons host Simmons in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play beginning at 4:00 p.m.
