Women's Lacrosse Defeated by Simmons, 20-4

The Albertus Magnus women's lacrosse team fell to Simmons College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 20-4. The Sharks outscored the Falcons 12-2 in the opening half and outshot the Falcons 36-7 in the 60 minutes of play.

Albertus (1-7, 0-4 GNAC) scored first with a goal less than two minutes into play as Kelly Kennedy (North Branford, Conn.) put the Falcons ahead 1-0.  Simmons then scored 11 unanswered goals as  Kasey Fries and Ashley Sheehan each scored three goals for the Sharks during that run.

Jenny Luna (Brentwood, N.Y.) scored on a free position shot to give the Falcons two goals but Simmons scored the final goal of the frame with 37 seconds on the clock to go into the halftime break with a 12-2 lead.

Kennedy opened the second half with her second goal of the contest before Simmons added eight more unanswered goals. Sheehan added three goals for the Sharks during that run and finished the afternoon with six goals and one assist.  Fries finished with four goals for the Sharks, while Stephanie Olivieri added three goals and one assist.

Luna added her second goal of the contest with 1:16 left on the clock as Nikki Kern (Wallingford, Conn.) was credited with the assist.

Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) picked up 11 saves in the contest, while Simmons' Crystal Derosier saw six total shots and made two saves, while allowing four goals.

Albertus will head to Central Connecticut State University on Saturday to face the University of Saint Joseph in a GNAC match-up.  That contest is scheduled to begin at 3:45 p.m.
