New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team fell to visiting St. Joseph (Conn.), 13-7, on Wednesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Celentano Field.

In cold and windy conditions, the Bluejays snapped a four-game conference losing streak to improve to 4-6 on the spring and 1-4 in GNAC play, while the Falcons remained winless to move to 0-8 overall and 0-5 in league games.

Sophomore attack Jenny Luna (Brentwood, N.Y.) paced the AMC attack with three goals, while freshman Aida Sarr (Bronx, N.Y.) potted two markers and added an assist for the hosts. Sophomore midfielder Alex Chan (Monroe, N.Y.) and senior captain Miranda Jassil (North Branford, Conn.) each scored one tally apiece for Albertus Magnus.

Defensively, AMC freshman Taylor Bisaillon (Columbia, Conn.) registered a game-high three caused turnovers, while senior Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) had two of her own for the Falcons. Both Jassil and Fekianne Charles (Bridgeport, Conn.) had three draw controls apiece for Albertus Magnus.

Freshman midfielder Rose St. Hilaire had a breakout game for the guests, scoring eight goals to go along with two assists, one ground ball and one turnover. Hilaire netted back-to-back goals three different times during the game to help the Bluejays earn their first conference triumph. Sophomore attack Danielle Bazzano chipped in two goals for St. Joseph and classmate Hannah Lemek contributed one marker and two helpers.

Defensively, Lemek and junior Vicky Thai both recorded two caused turnovers. Lemek was a force on draw controls, winning seven to go along with a team-best three ground balls.

Between the pipes, Albertus Magnus freshman Lexie Fenn (Oakville, Conn.) made 16 saves in a losing effort. On the opposite side, sophomore Emily Bourassa turned aside 13 shots for her fourth win of the season.

The two conference foes swapped goals early as Luna's second goal of the night tied the game at three nine minutes into play. Over the next 13 minutes, USJ ran off five straight scores capped by a strike from junior midfielder Lindsey Stefens to build an 8-3 edge. The hosts would battle back to pull within three thanks to goals from Luna and Sarr. The Bluejays would stretch their lead back to four courtesy of tally from Hilaire to take a 9-5 lead into halftime.

The scoring slowed down during the second half and after Jassil pulled the guests to within four at 10-6, St. Joseph scored three straight goals to put the game out of reach. Chan capped the scoring with her second of the season with just under two and a half minutes left in regulation.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Thursday, April 14, with a road non-conference contest against Bay Path. Last spring, the Falcons netted a 22-8 victory at home versus the Wildcats.
