Zelaya, Kern Lead Falcons to 17-2 Road Win Over Daniel Webster

Nashua, N.H. – Freshman Korina Zelaya (Trumbull, Conn.) and junior Nikki Kern (Wallingford, Conn.) recorded a team-high four goals as the Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 on the season following Thursday's 17-2 non-conference win over Daniel Webster College on the campus of Rivier University.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Albertus Magnus opened the contest with three straight goals to take the early advantage just three minutes in. After a Daniel Webster goal, Courtney Cacace (Brookfield, Conn.) was able to find the back of the net for her second goal of the game to push the Falcons' lead to three, 4-1.

Daniel Webster struck again at the 23:29 mark to cut the lead in half, 4-2, but Albertus Magnus would close out the half with a 7-0 run.

After the halftime break, Albertus Magnus picked up where they left off as the Falcons outscored the Eagles 5-0 to close out the game with the 17-2 non-conference win.

Zelaya led the Falcons in the second half scoring two of the five goals while Kern, Alex Chan (Monroe, N.Y.) and Kaitlin D'Agostino (Hamden, Conn.) each collected a goal, respectively.

FINAL STATS

  • Albertus Magnus outshot the Nighthawks 36-7 as well as held a 19-8 edge in ground balls.
  • Lexie Fenn (Oakville, Conn.) earned her second win of the season after she netted five saves over 60 minutes of play.
  • Daniel Webster posted 12 draw controls while the Falcons recorded eight.
  • Albertus Magnus went 4-of-8 in free position shots and 10-of-18 in clear attempts.
  • Diamond Majett of Daniel Webster posted 14 saves in the loss.
