New Haven, Conn. – Behind a seven-goal performance from freshman Courtney Cacace (Brookfield, Conn.), the Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse cruised past non-conference foe Bay Path, 25-7, on Monday evening at Celentano Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Over the first four minutes of play, Albertus Magnus and Bay Path exchanged goals as well as tied the game twice until back-to-back goals from Korina Zelaya (Trumbull, Conn.) pushed the Falcons up two, 4-2. Bay Path answered back at the 18:48 mark to bring the score to within one, 4-3, but the Falcons would extend their lead to six, 9-3, following a 5-0 run.
With less than 10 minutes remaining, Dallas Jackson was able to find Kaylee Herring for her second goal of the game and cut the Falcons' lead down to five, 9-4, but the hosts rallied off another five goals to push its lead to back-up to nine, 13-5 with 6:38 remaining.
About a minute later, Bay Path scored on a free position shot before the Falcons closed out the first half with a 3-0 run to go up 11, 16-5, at the half.
Albertus Magnus continued to control the momentum of the game and started the second half hot, scoring five unanswered goals to find themselves up 23-5 with nine minutes left in regulation. Bay Path's Kaylee Herring scored again at the 7:41 for the visitors, before the Falcons closed out the game with a 2-1 run to seal the win.
FINAL STATS
- Korina Zelaya (Trumbull, Conn.) also recorded an impressive game as the midfielder netted six goals and collected two assists for eight points.
- Sophomore Lexie Fenn (Oakville, Conn.) earned the win for the Falcons after she totaled seven saves as well as added two goals to her stat line.
- Bay Path was led by Kaylee Herring who scored a team-high four goals while Dallas Jackson added two of her own.
- Albertus Magnus held a 18-16 edge in draw controls and a 43-35 edge in ground balls.
- The Falcons went 24-of-27 in clear attempts as well as outshot the Wildcats 41-20.
