MARTINEZ NAMED GNAC CORVIAS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Freshman middie Katherin Martinez (Norwalk, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week, announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

The rookie tallied a team-best 14 points (10 goals, 4 assists) plus 10 ground balls and eight draw controls in a 2-2 week for the Falcons. Martinez opened her collegiate campaign posting a three-point performance (1G, 2A) in a loss to Mount Ida before recording a season-best six goals and two assists for eight points in the Falcons' 18-2 win over Bay Path. She concluded the week with a hat trick and a season-high five ground balls in the win over Newbury. Martinez also collected three caused turnovers and was 4-of-7 in free position shots.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE PICKED 10th IN GNAC PRESEASON POLL

The Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team was picked to finish 10th in the 2018 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Preseason Poll. 

The Falcons, who are coming off a 4-9 campaign a year ago, earned 26 points to finish 13-points ahead 11th-place Saint Joseph's (Conn.). Johnson & Wales received seven of a possible 11 first-place votes to take the top spot with 111 points.

LAST YEAR RECAP

  • The Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team finished the 2017 season with an overall record of 4-10.
  • The Falcons ended the year ninth in the GNAC with a 1-8 mark in league action.
  • The four wins were a new program record for the Falcons as the team scored victories against Newbury, Daniel Webster, Bay Path and Saint Joseph's (Conn.).

YEAR-END HONORS

  • Former Falcon Carla Tapia(Bronx, N.Y.) was named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Sportsmanship Team.
  • Tapia, a defender, lands on the sportsmanship squad for the third time in her collegiate career. She started and anchored the Albertus Magnus backline in all 13 games. Tapia caused eight turnovers and collected a career-high 17 ground balls. She also added three draw controls.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE LANDS FIVE ON GNAC ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
The Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team had five student-athletes – Kiana White, Fekianne Charles, Lexie Fenn, Carla Tapia and Alex Chan - be named to the 2016-17 GNAC All-Academic Team for their work inside the classroom.
