Women's Lacrosse Upended by Johnson & Wales

New Haven, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team lost to Johnson & Wales, 20-2, on Tuesday evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) clash at Celentano Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Over the first eight minutes of play, Johnson & Wales controlled the tempo of the game outscoring the Falcons, 7-0, until the 22:21 mark as sophomore Korina Zelaya (Trumbull, Conn.) broke Falcons' silence with her 16th goal of the season.

The Wildcats would resume control on offense, pushing their lead to 12-1, before sophomore Courtney Cacace (Brookfield, Conn.) scored the Falcons final goal of the half, 12-2, and game on a free position shot with 4:01 left in the first.

Johnson & Wales put the game away scoring eight goals over the final 30 minutes of play to secure the road win and remain undefeated in the GNAC.

  • Allison Pazienski paced the Wildcat offense with a game-high five goals while Madeline Bishara added four goals of her own behind five shots on goals.
  • Marley Medina assisted three of the Wildcats' 20 goals as well as collected two goals, scooped up two ground balls and won six draw controls.
  • Albertus Magnus was 8-for-10 in clears and 1-of-6 in free position shots compared to Johnson & Wales who was 2-of-2 in free position shots and 17-of-19 in clears.
  • The Wildcats edged the Falcons in ground balls, 20-15, draw controls, 13-11, and shots, 35-15.
  • The Falcons posted eight caused turnovers, including three from Katherin Martinez (Norwalk, Conn.) and Sabrina Pohlig (West Palm Beach, Fla.).
  • Johnson & Wales had five players record a caused turnover.
