Women's Lacrosse Suffers 13-4 Setback to Emmanuel

New Haven, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team fell to Emmanuel College by a score of 13-4 on Saturday afternoon at Celentano Field in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half (7-1 EM)

  • Kylie Rice got things started for the Saints scoring the first goal of the game at the 26:26 mark to put the visitors up 1-0.
  • Five minutes later, freshman Alexis Lape (Bristol, Conn.) found the back of the net for her sixth of the season off a nice feed from Kaitlyn Ellsworth (Tolland, Conn.) to even the score at 1-1.
  • Less than a minute later, Rice struck again for the Saints scoring her second of the game as well as sparked a 6-0 run that put the visitors up 7-1 at the half.

Second Half (6-3 EM)

  • Down 13-1 with 13:21 left in regulation, Albertus started to build momentum scoring three goals within three minutes to cut the deficit to 13-4.
  • Freshman Madison Neilander (Wallingford, Conn.) scored the hosts' second goal of the game while junior Korina Zelaya (Trumbull, Conn.) and Kaitlin D'Agostino (Hamden, Conn.) scored the third and fourth, respectively.
  • However, the Saints kept the Falcons at bay for the remaining three minutes of play to secure the road win.

KEY PERFORMERS
Albertus:

  • Ellsworth recorded the Falcons' only assist of the game as well as tallied two shots on goal.
  • D'Agostino also won six draw controls for Albertus while Neilander collected two.
  • Sophomore Maddy Rowe (Branford, Conn.) led the defensive unit with three caused turnovers.

Emmanuel:

  • The Saints were led offensively by Rice who posted a team-high five goals and three assists for eight points.
  • Chandra Franca also recorded a stellar game for Emmanuel scoring four goals and tallying two assists for six points.
  • Lincoln Hamblett won four of the Saints' nine draw controls as well as tallied a goal, a ground ball and a caused turnover.
