Women's Lacrosse Falls on the Road to New England College

Henniker, N.H. – Freshman Madison Neilander (Wallingford, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team recorded her fifth hat trick of the season in the Falcons' 20-7 road loss to New England College on Monday evening in non-conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Off the opening draw control, NEC's Alana Scott scooped up the ball and went in for the goal, 10 seconds in before Tara Bainbridge made it 2-0 less than a minute later. The Pilgrims continued to attack on offense, as they outscored the Falcons 8-0 in the first 10 minutes of the game.

Albertus finally got on the board with 18:43 left in the half, as Neilander scored her 28th goal of the season. NEC got three goals over the next two minutes, coming from Bainbridge, Sofia Castriotta, and Scott. Following a goal from freshman Alexis Lape (Bristol, Conn.), making the score 11-2, NEC closed out the half on a 5-0 run (16-2).  

Coming out of the halftime break, the two teams alternated goals for the early going, but Neilander scored back-to-back goals one minute apart for the Falcons. NEC answered with a pair of their own extending its lead to 20-5 with 8:32 left. Junior Kaitlyn Ellsworth (Tolland, Conn.) closed out the game with two straight goals for Albertus.

KEY PERFORMERS
NEC:

  • Bainbridge and Scott combined for 12 goals and four assists.
  • Lauren Rich scored a pair of goals and added two assists while tying Kaitlyn Berry with six draw controls.
  • Katelynn Brewster led NEC with two caused turnovers, while Madison Lacharite and Bainbridge tied for the team lead with four ground balls.

Albertus:

  • Neilander paced the Falcons with three goals, while Kaitlyn Ellsworth tallied a pair.
  • Junior Korina Zelaya (Trumbull, Conn.) led the way for Albertus with five draw controls.
  • Sophomore Katherin Martinez (Norwalk, Conn.) had a team-high four ground balls.
