Women's Lacrosse Sinks Mariners, Scores Season-High 20 Goals

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team scored a season-best 20 goals in a convincing 20-9 road victory over Mitchell College on Thursday afternoon in New London, Conn.

Leading the way for the Falcons was Alexandra Barrett (Northford, Conn.), with a season-best 10 points on five goals and five assists. Katherine Raposo (Warwick, R.I.) also tallied five goals to go along with two assists, while Keegan Riccio (West Haven, Conn.) finished with five points (4g, 1a). In the cage, Chloe Oliver (Milford, Conn.) made three saves on the way to her second collegiate win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons controlled the action in the first quarter, scoring eight of the first nine goals to go ahead 8-1 through 15 minutes. Barrett, Amanda McGeehan (Milford, Conn.), and Riccio put Albertus up 3-0 through the opening 4:02.

Following a Mariners' goal, Riccio scored her second tally of the day to make it a 4-1 game with 6:55 left in the first. Then, McGeehan also netted her second score before back-to-back Barrett strikes gave AMC a 7-1 lead. Mariah Mandulak (Shelton, Conn.) recorded Albertus' final goal of the quarter. Isabella Antonucci (Orange, Conn.) assisted on Barrett's third tally, while Bridget Rosikiewicz (Naugatuck, Conn.) earned a helper on Mandulak's score.

Mitchell kicked off the second quarter with the first two goals to cut the Falcons' lead to six, 9-3. Albertus answered with three-straight goals to build its advantage to 11-3. Raposo, Barrett, and Riccio combined to score all three tallies in the run, with Barrett assisting on the first and third strikes.

A Mariners' goal preceded a 6-0 run for AMC. Rosikiewicz tallied the first strikes of the run, while Raposo netted the next two. Emmalee Ianniello (Hamden, Conn.) opened the third quarter with a goal before McGeehan and Raposo concluded the Falcons' scoring surge. At the end of the run, AMC built a 17-4 advantage with 10:20 remaining in the third.

Following a 3-0 push by Mitchell, Barrett and Raposo scored back-to-back goals to make it a 19-7 game. The Mariners scored the last goal of the third quarter, sending the Falcons into the fourth up 19-8.

Both teams scored a goal in the fourth, with Riccio finding the back of the net for Albertus. Riccio's tally sealed a 20-9 non-conference victory for AMC.
