Falcons Soar Past Bay Path to 7-0 Victory

Albertus Magnus women's soccer newcomer Meaghan Skidmore (Terryville, Conn.) scored two goals as the Falcons soared past Bay Path College 7-0 on Monday afternoon.

Skidmore tallied both her goals in the first half within a 40-second time span as Albertus (2-1-0) took a commanding 5-0 lead before the intermission. Sophomore Shelley Mirmina (Milford, Conn.) scored the eventual game-winning goal in the fifth minute, which sparked the seven-goal afternoon for the Falcons.

Both of Skidmore's goals came in the 26th minute to give Albertus a 3-0 advantage. Sarah DiCenzo (Wallingford, Conn.) and Danielle Figueroa (Bridgeport, Conn.) both came off the bench and scored the next two goals for the Falcons. DiCenzo tallied her first of the year in the 28th minute then assisted on Figueroa's score at the 33:40 mark of the contest.

The Falcons added two more goals in the second half as Shannon Skidmore (Terryville, Conn.) also contributed to the offensive effort, scoring her first goal as a Falcon in the 48th minute. Defender Sarah Boudreau (Pascoag, R.I.), who spent the first two games of the season in net, capped off Albertus' seven-goal effort with her first goal of the year, extending her team's lead to 7-0.

Kelly Marchitto (West Haven, Conn.) played her first game in net for the Falcons as she recorded the shutout victory, registering two saves in 90 minutes of work.

The Falcons out shot Bay Path 34-4 on the afternoon, including a 20-2 clip in the first half of play. Bay Path's Rhodes allowed seven goals and recorded 18 saves in the loss.

Albertus Magnus will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 8 with a 4:00 p.m. contest at Mitchell College in New London, Conn.
