The Albertus Magnus women's soccer team scored two second-half goals to beat University of St. Joseph's (Conn.) 2-0 in GNAC action on Wednesday afternoon at Celentano Field.

The charge from the Falcons was led by freshman midfielder Danielle Polvan (East Haven, Conn.) as she ripped four shots on goal.

The anticipated battle between Albertus Magnus' GNAC offensive player of the week, Shelley Mirmina (Milford, Conn.), and St. Joseph's defensive player of the week, Melissa Dodge, proved to be a great match.

The best opportunity for a scoring chance came in the 11th minute. The ball was sent in to senior striker Amanda Roke (Cheshire, Conn.) who ripped a shot from eight yards out. Dodge proved her previous mentioning as she sprung towards the ball, not just parrying it away, but catching the ball to prevent a Falcon rebound.

The Falcons led the Blue Jays in shots in the first half 7-3 and led in corner kicks 3-0.

Halftime adjustments by coaches Nick Wajnowski and John Adams demonstrated to work nicely for the Falcons, scoring a quick second-half goal in the 53rd minute. Mirmina sent a beautiful ground cross to the foot of Polvan. Polvan looked to see where the goalie was guessing and knocked it to the far side of the net. Polvan's goal was her fourth of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) was solid in goal turning away all five shots that were put on frame. Case earned her fifth shutout of the season.

The second and final goal came with just 1:25 left in the game. Roke received a stolen ball in the offensive half and looked to counter attack. It was just her and the keeper who decided to stay put as Roke went one-on-one. Roke ripped the ball near post as the keeper got a hand to it but could not parry it wide as the striker scored her 24th goal of her career. Roke is now tied for third all-time in Falcons' history for goals scored.

With their fourth win of the season, the Falcons are now 8-3-2 on the year and 5-1 in league action.

The Falcons look to keep up the momentum this weekend against Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts.  That contest, scheduled for Saturday, will begin at 4:00 p.m.
