Skidmore, Case Lift Falcons to 1-0 Win at Simmons

Senior Meaghan Skidmore (Terryville, Conn.) scored the game-winning goal in the 81st minute of play as the Albertus Magnus women's soccer team edged Simmons College 1-0 in league play on Saturday afternoon.

After 80+ minutes of scoreless play, Skidmore put the Falcons on the scoreboard with her 10th career goal. Her shot sailed over the Simmons' defenders and snuck into the corner of the net.

Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) recorded a career-best tally 13 saves for the Falcons, besting her 11 stops at Trinity on Sept. 25.

Amanda Roke (Cheshire, Conn.) led the Falcons with nine shots in the contest, including five on net, while Skidmore put six of her eight total shots on target.  Roke earned the assist on the play to improve her career tally to 15. With 15 assists, she tied the Falcons' all-time record as she now stands atop the list with former standout Danielle "DJ" Figueroa.

Simmons' Desh Perera put the final Sharks' shot attempt on net in the 82nd minute as Case made the save on the play.  The Falcons' registered the final three shots of the contest, including a breakaway attempt by Albertus' Shelley Mirmina (Milford, Conn.), which was halted by Simmons' Briana Hayes in net.

The Falcons improve to an impressive 9-3-2 overall mark on the season and a 6-1 record in GNAC play. Simmons falls to 6-7 overall with the loss and 3-4 in the league standings.  Simmons' Hayes tallied 15 stops in net.

The Falcons will head to Boston on Monday to face Suffolk in a 2:00 p.m. GNAC contest.
