Women's Soccer Falls to Elms College, 5-1

Chicopee, Mass. - In its season opener, the Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team dropped a 5-1 decision to Elms College in non-conference play on Friday evening at Leary Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Elms broke open the scoring in the 19th minute as Alizaya Clark capitalized on a good shot attempt to give the hosts a 1-0 edge. Three minutes later, Morgan Foucault found the back of the net to lengthen the Blazers' lead to two, 2-0. 

Soon after, it turned into a four-goal game following back-to-back goals from Sydney Goodwin at the 56th and 59th minute, respectively. 

Jordan Kikosicki (East Haven, Conn.) and Morgan Violette (North Branford, Conn.) looked to respond for the Falcons a few minutes later, but both of the sophomore's attempts were unsuccessful.

Elms maintained momentum with Shannon Denault scoring at the 69th minute off a Madison Bernard assist to extend the lead to five, 5-0.

Less than 10 minutes later, sophomore Mercedes Faust (Warwick, R.I.) eliminated the shutout scoring the Falcons' first of the season following a crisp feed from Bridget Rosikiewicz (Naugatuck, Conn.). However, it was too late for the Falcons as the Blazers sealed the home win, 5-1,.

  • Keegan Riccio (West Haven, Conn.), Kikosicki and Jaidyn Gillette (Putnam, Conn.) registered three shots apiece to combined for nine of the Falcons' 17 shots.
  • Albertus had more corner opportunities than the Blazers, 4-3. 
  • The Falcons also had more shot attempts, 17-12.
