Women's Swimming & Diving Wraps Up GNAC Championships with Ninth Place Finish

Wellesley, Mass. - The Albertus Magnus College women's swimming & diving team finished ninth at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships after wrapping up the three-day tournament on Sunday afternoon.

The Falcons earned 205 points at the event to take ninth, topping Elms College in 10th. Roger Williams University were crowned the champions of the conference with 1,247 points, well ahead of second-place Simmons University (654).

DAY 1 RESULTS (FRIDAY 2/4)

200 Yard Freestyle Relay

1000 Yard Freestyle

  • Estrada finished in 11th place, and was closely followed by Bender-Rocheleau, who came in 12th place. The pair earned a combined 20 points.

DAY 2 RESULTS (SATURDAY 2/5)

Prelim - 500 Yard Freestyle

  • Bender-Rocheleau swam behind a time of 6:17.28 making tonight's final in 15th.
  • Accioly finished with a personal-best time of 6:29.01 making tonight's final in 19th.

Prelim - 50 Yard Backstroke

  • Oliver finished with a time of 36.19, dropping 1.14 seconds to place 22nd.
  • Chisunta Chikwamu (Lusaka City, Zambia) dropped 10.23 seconds and finished with a time of 45.80 for 23rd place.
  • Crisnelly Martinez-Tejeda (Stratford, Conn.) finished with a time of 50.02, slashing 5.80 seconds and placing 24th.

Prelim - 100 Yard Breaststroke

Prelim - 100 Yard Freestyle

  • Oliver earned her first collegiate individual final behind a time of 1:04.89, marking her personal-best score.
  • Chikwamu was able to drop 2.67 seconds and have a personal-best time, with a time of 1:36.15.
  • Martinez-Tejeda swam behind a personal-best time of 1:35.67, dropping 12.61 seconds.

Final - 400 Yard Medley Relay

  • The quartet of Oliver, Estrada, Accioly, Bender-Rocheleau finished with a time of 5:04.55, coming in 9th earning 28 points.

Final - 500 Yard Freestyle

  • Bender-Rocheleau finished 15th with a personal-best time of 6:14.57 to earn six points.
  • Accioly finished 17th earning four points with a personal-best time of 6:19.36.

Final - 100 Yard Freelay

  • Oliver finished 18th behind a time of 1:07.18, earning 3 points.

DAY 3 FINAL RESULTS (SUNDAY 2/6)

Prelim - 200 Yard Butterfly

  • Estrada qualified for finals with a time of 3:03.87.

Prelim - 200 Yard Breaststroke

  • Accioly earned a spot in the finals with a time of 3:38.17.
  • Cruceta-Garcia qualified for finals behind a mark of 4:38.09

Prelim - 50 Yard Freestyle

  • Oliver earned spot 19 heading into the finals with a time of 29:67.
  • Chikwamu finished with a time of 39:61.
  • Martinez-Tejeda swam behind a time of 43:41.

Prelim - 400 Individual Medley

  • Estrada finished with a personal-best time of 5:45.93 to earn a spot in the finals.
  • Bender-Rocheleau clocked a personal-best time of 5:57.80, earning a spot in the finals.

Prelim - 50 Yard Butterfly

  • Accioly swam behind a time of 31:19 to take a spot in the finals.

Prelim - 50 Yard Breaststroke

  • Cruceta-Garcia collected another finals appearance with a time of 57:66.

Final - 800 Yard Freestyle Relay

  • Oliver, Accioly, Bender-Rocheleau, Estrada finished ninth with a school-record time of 9:52.32. 

Final - 200 Yard Butterfly

  • Estrada posted a time of 3:00.28 to finish seventh and earn 16 points.

Final - 200 Yard Breaststroke

  • Accioly took 16th place with a time of 3:18.33, which was 19.84 seconds quicker than her mark in the prelims.
  • Cruceta-Garcia dropped 19.88 seconds from her time in the prelims with a mark of 4:18.21 to place 20th.

Final - 400 Individual Medley

  • Estrada finished seventh place with a time of 5:45.47.
  • Bender-Rocheleau swam behind a time of 5:52.35, coming in eighth place.

Final - 50 Yard Butterfly

  • Accioly qualified for the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships by clocking a time of 31:00 to place 17th.

Final - 50 Yard Breaststroke

  • Cruceta-Garcia placed 20th with a personal-best time of 56.48.

Final - 50 Yard Freestyle

  • Oliver placed 19th behind a time of 29.76.

The Falcons will be back in action at the NEISDA's, hosted by the University of Rhode Island, which will take place at the Tootell Aquatic Center in Kingston, R.I.  The first day of the four-day event is set for Thursday, Feb. 24.
