The Albertus Magnus women's tennis team defeated Mount Ida 8-1 on Saturday afternoon to earn their first berth into the GNAC Tournament under head coach Bob Migliorini and since 2007 (current GNAC records only go back to that year).

The Falcons will head to Suffolk on Wednesday for GNAC Tournament play.  Suffolk is the third seed of the tournament, while the Falcons are the sixth.

In today's contest, the Falcons won all matches except for No. 1 singles due to an injured Zaida Velazco.

In No. 2 singles, Stephanie Thy won in convincing fashion with a pair of 6-0 sets.  Malika Grant won No. 3 singles with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Patti-Ann Doucette.  Sandybell Anorga also won her singles' match with a 6-1, 6-0. Teresa Piniero and Sogona Sacko won their singles' matches with 6-0 sets.

The Falcons swept doubles' play with a 8-3 win in No. 1 doubles as Velazco and Grant tallied the win.  Thy and Anorga won in No. 2 doubles 8-3, while Sharinna Luna and Piniero won 8-2 in No. 3 doubles.
