Women's Tennis Nets Come-From-Behind Win Versus Bay Path

Springfield, Mass. – The Albertus Magnus College women's tennis team concluded an undefeated weekend of non-conference play with a thrilling 5-4 come-from-behind road victory against Bay Path on Sunday afternoon at Forest Park. With their third straight win, the Falcons improve to 4-2 on the year, while the loss drops the Wildcats to 2-6 overall.

With the score tied at four and one match remaining to be decided in singles action, Albertus Magnus sophomore Kelsea Wildman (Hamden, Conn.) defeated Katie Leibowitz in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 4 to secure the Falcon win.

The triumph was one of four in singles play for the Falcons as their top-four players each won in straight sets. At No. 1, junior Zaida Velazco (Dominican Republic) dominated her opponent en route to a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Freshmen Alicia Weaver (Bethel, Conn.) and Izzy Sabino (Cheshire, Conn.) both won their matches, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively.

In doubles play, Bay Path took two of three matches to build an early lead. The first point of the day for Albertus Magnus came at No. 2 doubles as Sabino and Wildman cruised to an 8-2 win.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday, October 3 with a road Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) clash versus in-state rival St. Joesph.
