Women’s Tennis Drops Hard-Fought Match to Suffolk

New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College women's tennis team lost to visiting Suffolk University, 7-2, on Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) showdown at the Celentano Courts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In doubles play, the guests got off to a quick start, taking all three matches for the early 3-0 edge entering singles play. The closest contest was at No. 1 as the Albertus Magnus tandem of Alicia Weaver (Bethel, Conn.) and Izzy Sabino (Cheshire, Conn.) fell 8-4 to Isabel Rathlev and Elena Cisneros-Garcia.

In singles action, Suffolk took nine matches, four of which in straight sets, to secure its second conference win of the season. At No. 2 singles, freshman Jessica Coughlin (Durham, Conn.) forced a three-set thriller as she dropped the first set, 6-2, but managed to secure the win with back-to-back victories, 7-5 and 10-4.

Sabino recorded the Falcons' second win of the match at No. 3 as she defeated Cisneros-Garcia, 7-6 and 6-4.
