Women's Tennis Ends Season with Defeat at Simmons in the GNAC Tournament

Boston, Mass. – The Albertus Magnus College women's tennis team saw their season come to an end with a 5-0 road loss to No. 3 Simmons College in the opening round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In doubles action, the hosts won all three matches to take an early edge entering singles play. The duo of Jessica Coughlin (Durham, Conn.) and Kelsea Wildman (Hamden, Conn.) put up a strong fight at No. 2 doubles, but fell short, 8-6, to Celia Speth and Paola Rios. The Falcons tandem of Alicia Weaver (Bethel, Conn.) and Izzy Sabino (Cheshire, Conn.) was unable to stop Nickie Nguyen and Marissa Johnson from taking No. 1 doubles, 8-1.

In singles play, the Sharks locked up the win after posting back-to-back wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Simmons Paola Rios defeated Nallely Magana (East Haven, Conn.) at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 6 singles, Olivia Lakes outlasted Paige Williams (Orange County, Va.) to score the win and help the Sharks move on to the semifinals.
