Women’s Volleyball Edged by Daniel Webster 3-1

The Albertus Magnus women's volleyball team fell to Daniel Webster 3-1 (25-19, 11-25, 13-25, 11-25) in its first of two matches on Thursday night in Nashua, N.H.

For the Daniel Webster Eagles, it was their first match of the 2011 season, while the Falcons dropped to 0-2 on the year with the non-conference loss.

Albertus jumped to an early start as the Falcons won the first set of the night 25-19 led by Elizabeth Williams' (West Haven, Conn.) three kills and Maritza Rosemond's (New Haven, Conn.) four assists and three digs.

Daniel Webster responded immediately, winning the next three sets to take the match. After the opening set loss, the Eagles registered a hitting percentage of over .500 in both the second and third sets en route to its season-opening match victory.

Chelsey Crawford led the Eagles with 13 kills along with a hitting percentage of .276, while Caitlyn DePierro dished out 37 assists.

Krista LaBissioniere (Meriden, Conn.) registered six digs for the Falcons in the loss, while Tiffany Ortiz (New Haven, Conn.) had six digs and four kills, respectively. Rosemond finished the match with 12 assists, three kills and six digs, while Williams tallied five kills in 11 attempts and one solo block.
