Women's Volleyball Edged by Mount Ida 3-0

Despite 14 digs and three kills from Tiffany Ortiz (New Haven, Conn.), the Albertus Magnus women's volleyball team fell to Mount Ida 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-11) on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action.

Mount Ida (9-7, 3-2 GNAC) opened the first set with a 13-0 run before a service error gave the Falcons a side out. During that run, Cody Fusco recorded three service aces to lead the Mustangs. The Falcons battled back to within 10 at 19-9 but Mount Ida finished the set with a 6-3 run to take the victory.

Albertus battled in the second set but fell 25-19. The Falcons took a 15-14 advantage midway through the set but the Mustangs went on a 7-2 spurt to take a 21-17 lead and never looked back. Lindsey Raynor (Branford, Conn.) led the Falcons in the second set with three kills in six attempts.

Mount Ida took the final set 25-11 to secure the match victory.

Nicole Acerra (East Haven, Conn.) finished the afternoon with 10 digs, while Krista LaBissioniere (Meriden, Conn.) tallied two kills, four assists and 12 digs.

Leanna Velez (Waterbury, Conn.) dished out nine assists and recorded six digs for the Falcons as well. Elizabeth Williams (West Haven, Conn.) contributed with four kills and one block assist.

Albertus Magnus will host Mount Saint Vincent on Thursday, October 6 in a 7:00 p.m. non-conference match-up in New Haven, Conn.
