Mount Ida Defeats Falcons 3-0 in Women's Volleyball

The Albertus Magnus women's volleyball team fell to Mount Ida College 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-20) in Newton, Mass. to open up a Sunday afternoon Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) trimatch.

Melissa Manning (Milford, Conn.) led the Falcons with a team-high eight kills in 26 tries, while she added 16 digs. Nicole Acerra (East Haven, Conn.) also had 16 digs, while Krista LaBissoniere (Meriden, Conn.) chipped in with 11.

Mount Ida jumped out to an early lead in the opening set as the Mustangs led 6-2 right out of the gate. They extended their lead to nine points at 21-12 before Albertus called a timeout. Two Albertus hitting errors sealed the set victory for the Mustangs as the Falcons hit -.103 in the frame.

The Mustangs led the entire second set, while their largest lead in the frame was 14-5. The Falcons battled in the final set as the Mustangs jumped out to a 7-2 advantage. The Falcons came back to tie the set at 10 before Mount Ida went on a 10-6 run. With the score 23-20 in the Mustangs' favor, a Jennifer Ferreira kill and a Lauren Rushalski service ace clinched the match victory.

Ferreira led all players with a match-high 21 kills as she hit .405, while Trudy Goetchius added 12 kills. The Mustangs also recorded double-digit kills in each set.
