Women's Volleyball Falls to Anna Maria 3-0

The Albertus Magnus women's volleyball team fell to Anna Maria College 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-16) on Saturday morning to drop to 4-16 overall and 0-7 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.  With the win, the AMCats improved to 12-11 on the year and 3-5 in league action.  Their 12 wins mark the most in a single season for the program.

Leanna Velez (Waterbury, Conn.) dished out 13 assists for the Falcons, while sophomore Caitlin Prete (Milford, Conn.) led all Falcons with six kills. Taylor DePalma (East Haven, Conn.) added five kills.

Anna Maria was led by Jacqueline Clinton with a match-high eight kills, while Jessica Goulet tallied seven.

Junior Alyssa Puccilli (Milford, Conn.) led the Falcons with 16 digs in the match, while Velez and Ana Gomez (New Haven, Conn.) added 13 and 11 digs, respectively.

Anna Maria jumped out in the opening set, dominating play and never trailing in the frame. Albertus kept the score close but could not take a lead, while eventually falling by three.  Anna Maria bounced back in the second set taking a 25-12 victory. Despite four lead changes and tying the score six times, the Falcons could not take control of play and dropped to 2-0 in the match.

Albertus opened the third set with a 3-0 run before the AMCats responded by tying the score at four on their way to a 25-16 win.

Prete added one assist and four digs for the Falcons, while Amy Seliga tallied two service aces.

Albertus will travel to the College of New Rochelle on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference contest.
