Women's Volleyball Clipped by Eastern Connecticut

Willimantic, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College women's volleyball team lost to in-state foe Eastern Connecticut State, 3-0, on Tuesday evening in non-conference action inside Francis E Geissler Gymnasium. With the 25-14, 25-12, 25-13 victory, the Warriors improve to 5-6 on the year, while Falcons move to 1-6 with the loss.

In the first meeting between the two programs since 1981, the hosts scored the three-game triumph.

Offensively, Albertus Magnus was led by sophomore Ana Gomez (New Haven, Conn.) with five kills, while freshman Megan Gritz (Milford, Conn.) and junior Amber Cohens (Hamden, Conn.) each added four apiece. On the defensive side, freshman libero Megan Warnke (Naugatuck, Conn.) chipped in six digs and a pair of service aces. Senior setter Ramona Onofrio (East Haven, Conn.) recorded five digs for the Falcons as well.

Eastern Connecticut was led by junior Adrianna Mihalek with 13 kills and an attack percentage of .400. Classmate Kay Mullen added nine kills to go along with an attack percentage of .533 for the hosts, who had a team attack percentage of .363 and registered 13 aces. Mihalek and junior Nina Zimmitti had four aces, junior setter Amanda Tourjee dished out 21 assists and senior Melissa Godere had six digs. Freshman Sage Tourigny, a 6-foot-3 inch middle, had four blocks, as did sophomore Caryn Sibiskie.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday, September 26 with a pair of non-conference games versus Bard and Medgar Evers. Albertus will begin the tri-match at noon versus Bard and will face Medgar Evers following that match at 2:00 p.m.
