Women's Volley Splits a Tri-Match at Bard

Hudson, N.Y. – The Albertus Magnus College women's volleyball team split a tri-match at Bard on Saturday afternoon, topping Medgar Evers, 3-1, and falling to the host Raptors, 3-0, in non-conference action at the Stevenson Athletic Center. In the opener, the Falcons fell 25-21, 25-18 and 25-21 and they took the finale, 23-25, 25-4, 25-18, 25-18. With the split, Albertus Magnus improves to 2-7 on the year.

After dropping the first four games of the day, the Falcons answered by winning the final three to leave the Empire State with a split and their second win of the year.

On the day, freshman middle hitter Megan Grtiz (Milford, Conn.) led the Falcon attack with 18 kills. In the finale, Gritz had a career-high 18 kills to go along with four aces. Sophomore middle hitter Ana Gomez (New Haven, Conn.) had an impressive day, recording a career-best 14 kills in the win over the Medgar Evers. Senior setter Ramona Onofrio (East Haven, Conn.) did a good job of distributing of the ball in the two games, recording 38 assists and nine aces on the day. Onofrio recorded a season-high seven aces in the four-game win versus Medgar Evers.

On the defensive end, sophomore defensive specialist Marielis Muriel (New Haven, Conn.) had a team-high 17 digs, while Onofrio added 11 of her own. In the two matches, Gomez led the way with two solo blocks.

In total, the Falcons recorded 51 kills, 28 aces and 85 digs in the two contests.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Thursday, October 1 with a home conference match versus in-state rival St. Joseph (Conn.) at 7:00 p.m. inside the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center.
