Women's Volleyball Loses a Pair at Smith Invitational

Northampton, Mass. – The Albertus Magnus College women's volleyball dropped a pair of non-conference matches inside Ainsworth Gym at the Smith College Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons (2-5) dropped the opener against Bryn Mawr, 3-1, before falling to the host Pioneers, 3-0, to close out the two-day event.

In the finale against Smith, the hosts took AMC by scores of 25-15, 25-10 and 25-11. The balanced Falcon attack saw three players record three or more kills led by senior outside hitter Amber Cohens (Hamden, Conn.) with four. Junior middle hitter Ana Gomez (New Haven, Conn.) and freshman outside hitter Jesselle Guzman (Santa Teresa, N.M.) each added three kills apiece. In the middle, junior setter Marielis Muriel (New Haven, Conn.) had nine assists for the guests.

Defensively, Guzman led the way with a team-high 13 digs, while Muriel added 11 of her own.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Tuesday, September 13, with a non-conference road clash against in-state foe Eastern Connecticut State that is slated to begin at 7:00 pm. The Falcons fell, 3-0, to the Warriors last autumn.
