New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College women's volleyball lost 3-0 to Norwich in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Friday night at The Nest inside the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center.

The visiting Cadets (2-7, 1-1) earned their first league win of the year and avenged a 3-0 setback against the Falcons (2-8, 0-2) last autumn by a score of 25-23, 25-16 and 25-14.

Freshman outside hitter led the attack for the hosts with a match-best 12 kills to go along with a contest-high 13 digs for a double-double. Classmate Jesselle Guzman (Santa Teresa, N.M.) chipped in six kills and junior middle hitter Ana Gomez (New Haven, Conn.) added five of her own. In the middle, junior Marielis Muriel (New Haven, Conn.) had a match-high 22 assists to go along with eight digs defensively.

It was a balanced offensive attack for the guests as freshman middle blocker Marissa Perroti paced the Cadet attack with seven kills, while classmate Ashley Nau added five. Six different Norwich players racked up three or more kills in the contest. Defensively, freshman Monika Schneider and classmate Brianna Dawson both had a team-high nine digs apiece.

After starting the year 2-0, the Falcons have dropped eight straight. As a team, the hosts recorded 29 kills, 51 digs and three blocks. On the opposite side, Norwich registered 29 kills, six service aces, 47 digs and three blocks.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Tuesday, September 27, with a home non-conference showdown against regional rival Purchase that is slated to get underway at 7:00 pm. Last year, the Falcons scored a shutout win on the road versus the Panthers.
