Women's Volleyball Cruises Past Medgar Evers for Second Straight Win

Brooklyn, N.Y. – The Albertus Magnus College women's volleyball team took down host Medgar Evers, 3-1, on Thursday evening at the Cougar Cave in non-conference action. The Falcons topped the Cougars by a score of 25-14, 25-10, 23-25 and 25-11.

Albertus Magnus (4-9) has now won back-to-back contests against teams from the Empire State, while Medgar Evers (0-13) remained winless. For the first time this fall, the Cougars took a game in the match by forcing a fourth game.

Senior outside hitter Amber Cohens (Hamden, Conn.) led the offensive charge for the guests, accounting for a game-high 11 kills and eight service aces. The balanced Falcon attack saw three other players register five or more kills. Junior middle hitter Ana Gomez (New Haven, Conn.) racked up seven, while freshman outside hitter Ashley David (West Islip, N.Y.) had six and classmate Jesselle Guzman (Santa Teresa, N.M.) recorded five of her own. At the service line, David also added six aces and junior setter Marielis Muriel (New Haven, Conn.) chipped in three. In the middle, Muriel dished out 26 assists.

Defensively, David had a match-high 15 digs, while Muriel and Guzman each had eight digs apiece.

As a team, the Falcons recorded 34 kills, 21 service aces, 47 digs and 55.0 points.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Saturday, October 1, hosting a non-conference tri-match against New Rochelle and Medgar Evers. The Falcons open play at 11:00 am versus the Blue Angels and conclude the day at 3:00 pm with a showdown against the Cougars.
