Newton, Mass. – The Albertus Magnus College women's volleyball team fell to Mount Ida, 3-1, on Wednesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action inside the Mount Ida College Athletic Center.

The Mustangs took the first set 25-18 and looked like they were on their way to a 2-0 lead when they led the second set 18-7, but Albertus came storming back to take the second set 26-24. Mount Ida was able to edge the Falcons 25-21 in the third set and then collected the victory with a 25-20 win in set four.

The Falcons (5-11, 0-3 GNAC) dropped their third straight conference match, while the Mustangs (7-10, 1-3 GNAC) picked up their first league win of 2016.

Freshman Ashley David (West Islip, N.Y.) led the way for Albertus Magnus with a double-double thanks to a 12-kill, 19-dig performance. The 19 digs were a new career-high for the first-year outside hitter. Offensively, senior right side Amber Cohens (Hamden, Conn.) set new season-bests with 14 kills and an impressive .522 attack percentage. Freshman Jesselle Guzman (Santa Teresa, N.M.) had a quality game for the Falcons, recording four kills, three service aces and a career-high 20 assists.

On the defensive end, five AMC players registered 10 or more digs led by David with a match-leading 19. Junior setter Marielis Muriel (New Haven, Conn.) had 16 digs to go along with two kills, four assists and one service ace. Guzman racked up 12 digs, while junior Ana Gomez (New Haven, Conn.) and freshman libero Nashalie Bayona (New Haven, Conn.) both had 10 digs apiece.

Three different players tallied double-digit kills for the home team, who were led by 15 kills apiece from Mary Kate Reidy (Agawam, Mass.) and Kristy Walton (Fairhaven, Mass.).

Reidy made it a double-double with 12 assists, while Molly Alkinburg (Port Deposit, Md.) had 13 assists and three service aces.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Saturday, October 8, with a road GNAC tri-match against Emmanuel and Suffolk in Boston that is slated to get underway at 2:00 pm. Last fall, both the Saints and the Rams shutout the Falcons in the Bay State.
