New Haven, Conn. – The duo of freshman outside hitter Ashley David (West Islip, N.Y.) and junior middle hitter Ana Gomez (New Haven, Conn.) combined for 13 kills, eight service aces and 24 digs to lead the Albertus Magnus College women's volleyball team past visiting York, 3-0, on Tuesday evening in non-conference action at The Nest inside the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center.

The Falcons (6-13) scored their second triumph against the Cardinals (2-17) this fall by a score of 25-16, 25-20, and 25-17.

Senior outside hitter Amber Cohens (Hamden, Conn.) led the AMC offensive charge with a match-high nine kills and a .316 attack percentage. Cohens also added four service aces and a block assist. David continued her strong play with seven kills, four aces and 10 digs, while Gomez registered a season-high 14 digs, six kills and four aces. In the middle, junior Marielis Muriel (New Haven, Conn.) and freshman Jesselle Guzman (Santa Teresa, N.M.) shared the setting duties and combined for 23 assists.

York was paced offensively by senior middle blocker Tiandra Jones with five kills, while sophomore Argenis Contreras added four of her own. At the service line, junior Nicolasa Restituyo proved to be a weapon as she racked up a match-leading eight aces.

The hosts took advantage of 27 attack errors, seven serving errors and 13 receiving errors by the Cardinals.

As a team, Albertus Magnus recorded 27 kills, 26 assists, 13 aces, 38 digs and one block.

The Falcons have now four straight against the Cardinals dating back to the 2014 season. All six of the AMC wins this autumn have come in non-conference action.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Saturday, October 15, with a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match with in-state foe St. Joseph (Conn.) and host Rivier. Last fall, both the Bluejays and the Raiders both blanked the Falcons.
