Mandulak, O'Brien Earn Falcon Spotlight Players of the Week Accolades

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After posting stellar performances on the court and the pitch, Mariah Mandulak (Shelton, Conn.) of women's tennis and Liam O'Brien (Guilford, Conn.) of men's soccer were named the Albertus Magnus College Falcon Spotlight Players of the Week.

Mandulak picked up the lone win for the Falcons in their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener against Simmons University on Saturday, Sept. 10. The senior bested Olga Zhizin 6-1, 4-6, 10-6 in a three-set classic at No. 1 singles for her first victory of the young campaign. Mandulak also teamed up with JuJu Oliver (New Britain, Conn.) at No. 1 doubles, falling in a hard-fought affair by an 8-5 final score.

The Falcons return to action on Thursday, Sept. 15, to play the University of Saint Joseph (CT) at home at 3:30 p.m. at the Celentano Courts.

O'Brien was the men's soccer team's best offensive weapon last week, as he led the team with four points and two goals. The junior defender scored two goals to lead the Falcons to a 2-1 victory over Hunter College on Monday, Sept. 5. O'Brien also helped the Albertus defense hold its next two opponents to just one combined goal, which included a 3-0 shutout victory over Regis (Mass.) College on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Albertus men's soccer next hits the pitch to play Lasell University on Wednesday, Sept. 14. The GNAC contest between the Falcons and Lasers is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m.
