Olander, Risk Named Falcon Spotlight Players of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After playing pivotal roles in their programs picking up wins this past week, Sophie Olander (Amston, Conn.) of the women's swimming & diving team and Charles Risk (Medicine Hat, Alberta) of the men's ice hockey team were named the Albertus Magnus College Falcon Spotlight Players of the Week.

Olander led the way for the Falcons with the team's lone individual win at a road meet hosted by the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Saturday. The rookie also tallied one second-place finish and one third-place showing to cap off her stellar day. She captured her first career win in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 13:03.42, which was more than 27 seconds clear of her next closest competitor. Olander was also a part of AMC's 200-yard freestyle relay team that finished second with a combined time of 2:04.89. Her two third-place showings came in the 200 medley relay and the 500 freestyle.

The women's swimming & diving team returns to Bruyette Natatorium for its next competition on Sunday, Nov. 13, for a road meet against Saint Joseph and Colby-Sawyer College. Event one is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

Risk (1g, 1a) finished last week tied for the team lead in points with two to help the Falcons split a weekend series against the challenging Colonels of Wilkes University. The senior recorded a goal in the opener on Saturday before assisting on AMC's opening tally in its convincing 5-1 victory on Sunday evening. In addition to helping the Falcons' offense, Risk served as Albertus' first-line left defenseman in both contests. After this weekend, he is in a three-way tie for the team lead in points with four this season.

The men's ice hockey team is back in action on Sunday, Nov. 13, for a road 5:40 p.m. showdown against Anna Maria College at the Horgan Arena in Auburn, Mass.
