Falcons Earn Split with First Place Johnson and Wales University 5-0, 6-5

West Haven, CT - The Albertus Magnus College Baseball team defeated Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Johnson and Wales University 6-5 in the second game of a crucial doubleheader with play-off implications.

The Falcons struggled to find their offensive swing in Game one as senior southpaw Nick Marine (Bristol, RI/Mount Hope) threw a complete game three-hitter to go along with no walks and six strikeouts for Johnson and Wales.

Game two saw the Falcons take a 3-0 lead entering the top of the fifth inning before an apparent strike three call was called back and Johnson and Wales took advantage blasting a base clearing double to take a 5-3 lead entering the bottom of the fifth.  A Rob Gambardella (North Haven, North Haven) RBI single cut the lead to 5-4 entering the bottom of the sixth inning.  Freshman Zak Sokolis (Meriden, CT/Maloney) would hit an RBI double to give Albertus the 6-5 lead entering the top of the seventh inning.

Closer Robert Bengivengo (Oxford, CT/Seymour) came in to record the save as they Falcons improved to 6-18, 4-6 GNAC while Johnson and Wales drops to 19-14-1, 10-2 GNAC play.

Albertus hosts GNAC opponent Norwich University on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 for a doubleheader.
