Standish, Maine – The Albertus Magnus College baseball team dropped both ends of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader versus Saint Joseph's (Maine) on Sunday afternoon at Mahaney Diamond. The Monks erased an early deficit to top the Falcons, 6-1, in the opener before earning an 11-4 triumph in the nightcap.

With the two setback, Albertus Magnus enter the final weekend of the regular season with an 11-18 overall record and a 5-7 mark in league play, while Saint Joseph's ran its winning streak to five games to improve to 20-10 on the spring and 10-2 in conference contests.

Game One
Albertus Magnus jumped out to an early edge in the opener, plating their lone run in the top of the first. With two outs and the bases loaded, senior infielder Steven Lockman (Wallingford, Conn.) hit an RBI single to short that brought freshman leadoff hitter Derwin Nunez (Bridgeport, Conn.) charging home.

Monk starter Josh Partridge was able to get out of the jam by inducing an inning-ending comebacker. In the bottom half of the frame, SJC jumped all over Falcon starter Michael Terzi (Wallingford, Conn.), touching him for two runs. In the stanza, the Monks took advantage of three AMC errors to take a lead they would not relinquish.

Saint Joseph's added two runs in the second courtesy of a triple from Taylor Black and the hosts would go on to add single insurance runs in both the third and four innings.

At the dish, Lockman and freshman outfielder Tyriq Harris (Waterbury, Conn.) paced the Falcon attack with two hits apiece.  

Partridge worked five innings to earn his third win of the spring, while Terzi was saddled with the loss for the guests. In relief, senior Oscar Ogando (Elkton, Md.) threw one and two-thirds scoreless innings.

Game Two
The Monks blew open game two with a nine-run outburst in the second inning. During the spurt, SJC had seven hits and the Falcons committed an error.

Albertus Magnus got on the board with three runs in the top of the third. In the inning, senior Tyler Robertson (Cheshire, Conn.) hit a triple to right center that scored a pair and classmate Justin Poirier (Meriden, Conn.) followed with a sac fly to center field.

The Falcons pushed across another run in the fifth as Lockman walked with the bases loaded and two outs to bring Robertson trotting home. With the bases still loaded, Monk reliever Ben Coleman recorded a strikeout to get out of the jam.

On the bump, junior southpaw Adam Olszyk (Hamden, Conn.) was saddled with the loss. He tossed one and two-thirds innings and allowed five earned runs on six hits. In relief, senior Dan Zarnik (Hamden, Conn.) closed out the game for the guests and surrendered just one earned run.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Wednesday, April 27, with a road non-conference doubleheader versus in-state rival Western Connecticut State that is slated to begin at 4:00 pm. Last spring the two squads split a doubleheader.
