Field Hockey Falls to Stevens in Program Opener

New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College field hockey team took the field for the first time in program history on Wednesday, September 5, but were upended 13-0 by Stevens Institute of Technology. The Falcons showed great resiliency and refused to let the score get them down.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Stevens controlled the non-conference match-up scoring all 13 goals over the first 35 minutes of play. The Ducks were led offensively by Brynn Froehlich who scored a team-high two goals. 

Albertus settled in defensively thanks to the Falcons' backline of Keara Cato (Hamden, Conn.), Sasha Byrd (New Haven, Conn.), Rochelle Furino (North Haven, Conn.), Victoria Torres (West Haven, Conn.), Monica Colon (Newark, N.J.) and Veronica Colon (Newark, N.J.). 

Albertus had a couple break-a-way attempts throughout the game by Morgan Shura (Wallingford, Conn.), Savannah Tibetts (Hamden, Conn.) and Madison Neilander (Wallingford, Conn.).

Freshman Keeper Kasey Herrera (Stratford, Conn.) was a bright spot for the Falcons, posting eight saves in her first collegiate contest.
