Men's Basketball Weekly Preview: Old Westbury, Emmanuel & Johnson & Wales

Last Week: Prior to the Thanksgiving break, the Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team had six different players scored in doubles figures as the Falcons raced past Fitchburg State, 90-78. AMC picked up its first win of the season. Albertus Magnus scored 80 or more points for the second straight game. The Falcons forced 27 FSU turnovers and turned them into 25 points. Albertus Magnus also dished out 12 assists on 31 made field goals.

This Week: Albertus Magnus has its busiest week of the early season with three games. The Falcons open their home slate on Tuesday, welcoming in Old Westbury before hosting Emmanuel on Thursday in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener for both squads. The team closest out the first week of December with a road showdown against Johnson & Wales in a rematch of last winter's conference championship game.

Last Season Against the Saints: Albertus Magnus swept the regular season series with Emmanuel in 2015-16. The Falcons won on the road, 84-73, before topping the Saints, 90-87, at home. In the road triumph, Jaqhawn Walters had 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists for AMC. In the win at home, both Walters and Ryan Pittman scored in double figures as Albertus Magnus outlasted Emmanuel.

Last Year Versus the Wildcats: Albertus Magnus and Johnson & Wales split the regular season series with each team winning at home. JWU handed AMC a lopsided loss in the Ocean State before Albertus Magnus handed the Wildcats their first and only conference loss of the year. In the rubber match, Johnson & Wales defeated Albertus Magnus in the GNAC Championship to earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

NOTES:
- Albertus Magnus was picked to finish in the GNAC Preseason Poll. The Falcons earned 96 points thanks to garnering six of 10 first-place votes. It marked the seventh time in the last eight years that AMC was tabbed as the GNAC preseason favorite.
- The team returns a trio of starters from last season, including All-GNAC honoree Jaqhawn Walters. Last time out, Walters recorded his first double-double of the season thanks to 12-point, 11-rebound performance.
- Albertus Magnus has had two different leading scorers in its two games this season. Six different Falcons have scored in double figures this season.
- Pittman had his best game of the year last time out, scoring 18 points on 5-of-12 shooting. He also had six rebounds, three assists and four steals. The second-year guard also hit eight shots from the free-throw line.  
- As a team, Albertus Magnus has knocked down over 44 percent of its shots from the field (61-of-136), highlighted by making 16-of-36 (44.4%) from three-point range.
- Freshman forward Damian Grant made the most of his first collegiate start, scoring a career-high 16 points and pulling down four rebounds to go along with one steal and a pair of blocks. Grant was productive in the post, knocking down 6-of-9 shots from the field.
