Men's Basketball Weekly Preview: Newbury, Mitchell & Suffolk

Last Week: The Albertus Magnus men's basketball team went 2-1 last week, topping Old Westbury and conference foe Emmanuel at home before falling at Johnson & Wales in overtime over the weekend. Albertus Magnus enters the week with a 3-2 overall record and a 1-1 mark in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. Senior guard Devin Coleman averaged 25 points per game and knocked down over 48 percent of his shots from three-point range last week for the Falcons. Albertus Magnus is 3-0 this season when scoring 83 or more points. Junior forward Jaqhawn Walters averaged over 14 points and 11 rebounds last week for the team, while recording three double-doubles. Walters has registered a double-double in four straight games.

This Week: Albertus Magnus has another busy week with three games. The Falcons will not have to leave the Constitution State as the squad hosts Newbury and Mitchell in non-conference action during the week before welcoming in Suffolk in GNAC play over the weekend. This is the last full week of action before the holiday break for AMC.

Series History: Newbury leads the all-time series, 5-2, dating back to the first meeting in December of 2003. Albertus Magnus won its last two against, topping the Nighthawks in January of 2015 and November of 2013.

Last Season Against the Mariners: Albertus Magnus defeated Mitchell, 99-91, on the road early last year. Five different Falcons scored in double figures in the win, led by Walters with 21 points to go along with 12 rebounds. As a team, Albertus Magnus hit over 50 percent of its shots from the floor and the team outrebounded the Mariners, 52-39.

Last Year Versus the Rams: Albertus Magnus swept the season series against Suffolk, defeating the Rams by 10 on the road and 16 at home. In the road victory, AMC shot 50 percent from the field and saw three players score in double figures, while holding Suffolk to just 38 percent shooting.

NOTES:
- Albertus Magnus was picked to finish in the GNAC Preseason Poll. The Falcons earned 96 points thanks to garnering six of 10 first-place votes. It marked the seventh time in the last eight years that AMC was tabbed as the GNAC preseason favorite.
- The team returns a trio of starters from last season, including All-GNAC honoree Jaqhawn Walters. Last time out, Walters recorded his fourth double-double of the season thanks to 12-point, 10-rebound performance.
- Albertus Magnus has had three different leading scorers in its two games this season. Six different Falcons have scored in double figures this season in a game.
- Senior guard Devin Coleman averaged 25 points per game and knocked down over 48 percent of his shots from three-point range as the Falcons went 2-1 last week. Coleman also averaged over four assists per game and two steals per contest for Albertus Magnus. For the week, he knocked down 15 shots from three-point range. In a non-conference win against Old Westbury, he poured in a career-high 29 point. He followed that up with 24 points courtesy of hitting six shots from deep in GNAC play versus Emmanuel. Coleman closed out the week with 22 points on 7-of-17 shooting at Johnson & Wales
- As a team, Albertus Magnus has knocked down over 45 percent of its shots from the field (147-of-322), highlighted by making 40-of-93 (43.0%) from three-point range.
