Jersey City, N.J. – The Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team closed out the 2016 calendar year with an 81-59 road setback versus New Jersey City in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at the John J. Moore Athletic & Fitness Center.

The Falcons (6-3) saw their three-game winning streak come to an end with their second consecutive road loss, while the Gothic Knights (9-1) have won nine out of their first 10 games for the first time since the 2011-12 campaign.

Junior forward Jaqhawn Walters (Hartford, Conn.) was the lone Albertus Magnus player to score in double figures, netting 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field. Walters also knocked down six shots from the charity stripe and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds. The double-double was the third in a row for Walters and his seventh of the season. Senior guard Devin Coleman (Bridgeport, Conn.) chipped in nine points for the guests and sophomore guard Ryan Pittman (Stratford, Conn.) contributed eight points to go along with three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Albertus Magnus committed 21 turnovers and NJCU turned them into 26 points. The Gothic Knights controlled the boards, outrebounding the Falcons, 58-41. After the early minutes of play, the hosts lead throughout, stretching their edge to as many as 27 late in the second half.

Both teams struggled from deep, AMC hit just 3-of-18 from three-point range, while New Jersey City connected on 6-of-26 from beyond the arc. The hosts did a good job distributing the ball, collecting 16 assists on 27 made field goals. Albertus Magnus had just six dimes on 20 made baskets.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Thursday, January 5, with a road Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) showdown against Norwich that is slated to begin at 7:00 pm. Last winter, the Falcons swept the season series with the Cadets.
