Men's Golf Tied for Seventh in GNAC Pre-Championship Poll

Winthrop, Mass. – The Albertus Magnus College men's golf team tied for seventh place, along with Emmanuel College, in the 2019 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Pre-Championship Poll. The poll, which was released on Thursday afternoon, is voted on by the league's eight coaches.

The 2019 two-day, 36-hole GNAC meet will take place this weekend at Biddleford-Saco Country Club in Saco, Me., on Saturday-Sunday, October 12-13, with Saint Joseph's College of Maine serving as the host.

Johnson & Wales University has been selected atop the annual pre-championship poll after receiving six first-place votes and 61 points while Southern Maine finished second in the poll with 51 points and collected the two final first-place votes.

Suffolk University and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth received 46 and 38 points, respectively, in the poll to slot third and fourth.

Rhode Island College finished fifth in the poll with 36 points. Host Saint Joseph's College of Maine received 32 points, followed by the Falcons and the Saints tying for 12 points.

Golfers will tee off at 10:00 AM on Saturday at Biddleford-Saco and the student-athletes will get Day 2 competition underway at 9:30 AM on Sunday. In the case of inclement weather, 18 holes will be sufficient to determine a GNAC champion.

Albertus Magnus College, founded in 1925 by the Dominican Sisters of Peace, is a Catholic College in the Dominican Tradition. It is recognized as a Top 100 Regional University in the north by US News & World Report Best Colleges guide for 2019. The College has an enrollment of 1,500 students in its traditional undergraduate program, accelerated adult degree programs, and 12 graduate programs, including a new Master of Public Administration and the only Master of Arts in Art Therapy and Counseling in Connecticut. In the last few months, the College received two significant federal grants, $300,000 from the Department of Justice and a $2 million Title III grant from the Department of Education.
