BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Monarchs took the first lead of the game, 1-0, 6:47 into the contest. After a saved shot by Albertus' Logan Bateman (Ottawa, Ontario) resulted in the puck flying into the air, King's Mahingan Decontie swiped at the puck as it hit the ice to sneak it by the keeper for the early score.

With 3:16 left in the opening period, Albertus answered with a stellar individual effort from Stein. After winning a faceoff in his offensive zone, the Vancouver, British Columbia, native corralled the puck himself and sent it over the goalie's glove-side shoulder to even the score at 1-1.

The Falcons took their first advantage in the second period, breaking the tie with Hast's goal. The Swedish forward brought the puck up the ice by himself before beating a defender and back-handing a shot past the Monarchs' Brandon Daigle. The goal gave the visitors a 2-1 lead 11:43 into the frame.

Unfortunately for Albertus, the Monarchs again knotted the score, this time at 2-2 before the end of the second. With 3:02 left in the period, Tyler Blanchard buried a one-timer off a pass from Jack Cooper to send the two teams into the third deadlocked.

Neither team scored in the third period, leading Albertus to its first overtime contest of the season. Bateman saved all seven shots he faced in the third, giving him 25 stops heading into OT.

In overtime, the game swung in King's favor after a penalty call 59 seconds into the period. With Harley Michaels (Kirkland, Quebec) sent to the box for tripping, the Monarchs controlled the action in the overtime, tallying all three shots in the frame. Finally, Cooper sealed the home team's victory by gathering one of his own saved attempts and sneaking it by Bateman to his stick side for the 3-2 winner.
