HOW IT HAPPENED

Albertus spent the majority of the first half fighting off the Gators' attack as the hosts held a 14-1 edge in shot attempts. The Falcons backed up netminder Garfield Robinson (West Haven, Conn.), who turned aside all three shots he faced, to keep Sage off the scoreboard for the first set of 45 minutes.

Offensively, meanwhile, the Falcons' only opportunity on target in the stanza was at the 14th-minute mark from freshman Luis Agudelo (East Haven, Conn.), but it was no match for the Gators' defensive unit.

Tides turned in the Falcons' favor over the first 15 minutes of the second when the blue-and-white rattled off four shots, including a shot on goal from Jackson Miner (Canton, Conn.) two minutes in.

With the clock winding down, both teams piled on the pressure offensively until the 75th-minute mark as Sage's Jeaneste Pierre found the back of the net following a pass from Christian Vaalstuen, giving the Gators the one-goal edge.

Time ticked away in Sage's favor, despite the Falcons' final two shot attempts from Abdoul Aremu (West Haven, Conn.) and Kelvin Cortez (Meriden, Conn.), and the hosts went on to capture its first win of 2021.
