Falcons Win Close 5-4 Match vs. CCNY

The Albertus Magnus College men's tennis team earned a close 5-4 victory over CCNY on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action. The Falcons won two out of three doubles' matches and won No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

Pete Zacharias (North Haven, Conn.) and Marcus Artaiz (Hamden, Conn.) won No. 1 doubles with a close 9-7 win over Pavel Shapturenka and David Arrovave.  The Falcons also won No. 3 doubles as Elvis Santana (Bronx, N.Y.) and Ahmed Abdulateef (Hamden, Conn.) defeated Sallam Ahmed and Qingtian Chen with an 8-5 final.

In singles' action, CCNY won in the No. 1, 2 and 3 positions, while the Falcons won No. 4, 5 and 6.  Matt Mezzei (Wallingford, Conn.) downed Ahmed with a pair of 6-1 sets, while Santana won No. 5 singles with the same scores.

Abdulateef rounded out the singles' victories as he downed Chen with 6-1, 6-0 set scores.

Albertus returns to action on Monday afternoon with a 3:30 p.m. match against Wheelock in New Haven.
