The Albertus Magnus softball team opened the 2012 season with a 4-3 victory over Norwich on Tuesday afternoon in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

After finishing the 2011 season with an 18-4 victory over New Rochelle, the Falcons came out of the gates this season with determination as they picked up their first win of the year in their 2012 opener. The victory marks the first season-opening win for the Falcons since the 2005 season when the program defeated Triton 8-3 on March 21, 2005.

In today's opening game, Melissa Manning (Milford, Conn.) earned the victory for the Falcons in her season pitching debut.

In the first inning of the contest, freshman Shannon Knox (Hamden, Conn.) doubled before freshman Aimee Mirto (Hamden, Conn.) drove her in with an RBI single.

Freshman Rebecca Slivinsky (Plainville, Conn.) led off the second frame with a double as she was followed by a base hit from sophomore Leyna Andren (Manahawkin, N.J.). Krista LaBissoniere (Meriden, Conn.) contributed to the hit parade as she registered her first double of the season.

Freshman Danielle Thuerling (Wallingford, Conn.) came out of the bullpen for the Falcons in the fourth inning and shut down the Norwich offense to close out the game.
