Softball Cruises to 8-3 Win Over Gordon

Leyna Andren (Manahawkin, N.J.) went 2-for-2 with one RBI as the Albertus Magnus softball team cruised to an 8-3 victory over Gordon College on Wednesday in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The 2012 Falcons are now 3-1 on the year which marks the program's best start since opening the 2002 season 4-1.

Prior to this season, the Falcons had won just one game in 85 tries and under the leadership of second-year head coach Ed Emielita, the Falcons are off to their best start in the last nine years.

The Falcons registered nine hits in today's ballgame led by multiple hit performances from Andren and Brittney Urciuoli (Newington, Conn.). Urciuoli was 2-for-3 for the Falcons with two runs scored and a stolen base.

Elaina Maio (West Haven, Conn.) went 1-for-3 with two RBI on the afternoon, while teammate Danielle Figueroa (Bridgeport, Conn.) recorded a double and two RBI as well.  Melissa Manning (Milford, Conn.) added a hit and an RBI for the Faclons also.

Freshman Danielle Thuerling (Wallingford, Conn.) was the winning pitcher for her second victory of the day as she improved to 2-0 on the year. She struck out three batters in the contest as well.

The Falcons will conclude their spring break trip on Thursday as they will face Gettysburg in a 9:30 a.m. contest in Myrtle Beach. Following that game, the Falcons will play Finger Lakes Community College in an exhibition match-up.
